The Best Time to Visit Phuket: A Complete Guide

Mar 31, 2025 / by Aleksej Shabalin

Phuket is a slice of paradise and one of Thailand’s most beloved resorts. With its tropical climate, the island sees plenty of sunshine—and its fair share of rain. The year splits into two main seasons: wet and dry. But no matter when you visit, Phuket always has something special to offer.

There’s no single best time to visit Phuket — it all depends on your budget, travel style, and what you want to do. Some come for lazy beach days, others for cultural adventures. Trust your instincts, and use this guide to make the right call.

Dry Season (November–February)

The Phuket dry season kicks off in November, bringing perfect beach weather, calm seas, and ideal conditions for exploring. Daytime temps hover around 30°C (86°F), while evenings cool off to a pleasant 25°C (77°F). The ocean stays warm at 29°C (84°F), even after sunset.

Humidity sits at 70–75%, and rain is rare—though December might surprise you with a week of showers. By February, rain drops to just 2–3 days a month.

Since this is peak tourist season, expect crowds at hotels and attractions. But if you book early (30–60 days ahead), you can snag discounts and avoid the hassle.

Hot Season (March–May)

Spring turns up the heat, and tourist numbers dip. March boasts up to 22 sunny days, with almost no rain. By May, though, showers creep in—up to two weeks’ worth—while sunny days drop to 10.

Temps hit 32°C (90°F) by day and 28.5°C (83°F) at night, with ocean waters warming to 30°C (86°F). Humidity starts at 75% in March but climbs to 85% by summer.

A word of warning: it’s the hottest months in Phuket, the sun here is intense. Pack wide-brimmed hats, high-SPF sunscreen, and save outdoor adventures for early mornings or evenings.

Rainy Season (June–October)

Monsoon (rainy) season in Phuket doesn’t mean constant downpours—just frequent, short showers. Daytime temps stay around 30–31°C (86–88°F), nights rarely dip below 27°C (81°F), and humidity spikes to 90%. Rainy days average 14–15 per month.

But don’t write it off. The low season has perks:

  • Fewer crowds on beaches and streets.
  • Lush, vibrant landscapes.
  • Hotels slash prices, often tossing in extra perks.

The sea stays warm (30°C/86°F), but storms can cancel boat trips. Skip swimming during rough weather.
